This is one of my favorite soup recipes. It is a great way to use every bit of a holiday ham bone and makes for a very hearty soup. Instant Pot Navy Bean and Ham Soup is easy to make in the Instant Pot and only takes a handful of ingredients, most you may already have on hand.
I have been converting stovetop recipes to my Instant Pot and the soups are easy to convert. I was at first concerned about the beans cooking enough, but matching it up with the pressure cooking for beans it worked out well. Besides this soup only gets better with each leftover serving.
What you Need
This only has a few ingredients, as long as you have ham bone or loose ham handy. The only thing I ever buy s specifically for this is the bag of navy beans, and those are cheap. The hardest part is the vegetable chopping, but I use my Ninja Foodi Chopper and it makes quick work of it. Prepping everything in my Pampered Chef Prep Bowls also makes it a simple dump and go for most steps.
This recipe calls for:
- Meaty ham bone (or loose ham)
- Navy beans
- Water
- Carrots
- Celery
- Onion
- Bay Leaf
- Salt
- Pepper
Depending on your family’s tastes you can add more or less of the pepper and onion. I would not increase the salt as ham is a salty meat.
Ninja Foodi Navy Bean and Ham Soup Instructions
This is really a dump and cook recipe. Add the ham bone and navy beans first to the Ninja Foodi and then sprinkle the other ingredients around the bone. Then just pour the water over the top. Cover with the pressure lid and cook on high for 90 minutes. When cooking is done, release the pressure and pullout the ham bones. The initial single bone may fall apart (had 3 pieces in the pot below), but the bones will come out clean as the ham will just fall off. I also use this as an opportunity to pullout any obvious large fat pieces. If you grab with some tongs and just hold for a moment the meat will fall off letting you pull away any extra fat. Then stir and serve,
Ninja Foodi Navy Bean and Ham Soup is one of those recipes that people will think you were in the kitchen all day making. This will make a lot of soup. I normally share at least half with my mother-in-law or neighbors. My mother-in-law says this reminds her of her mom’s recipe for this soup.
This is also a great COST Cooking recipe as it makes a lot. Coming out of the freezer later it may be more of a stew, but tastes just as good. However, you can add a little water and it will be soup consistency again. Check out another create soup recipe with Instant Pot Chicken and Wild Rice Soup.
